Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper Blepharoplasty - This is also called as Eyelid lift, cosmetic eye surgery etc.

The main aim of Upper Blepharoplasty is to remove the extra fat or excess skin to rejuvenate the looks. The surgery is also useful for lifting the tired eyes and improving the vision. This surgery is in existence since more than a century. However this has changed in understanding and performance over the period of time. In last 20 years the process in which the fat resection was done has decreased because in this process the eyelids were not closing completely.

The Upper Blepharoplasty really rejuvenates the eye area. Most of the people go for this surgery in there middle years.

How to perform Upper Blepharoplasty?

The Upper Blepharoplasty is performed under the local anesthesia. The first step for the surgery is to mark the extra skin to be removed. The first cut is made where the eye folds naturally along the eyelid. The distance of the second cut from the first one is variable and depends upon how much skin is to be removed.

The next step is to open the orbital septum and firstly the middle pocket of the fat is removed by dissection. The second pocket called as nasal is removed afterwards. After that the eye edges are closed using sutures. The scar thus produced is not visible very much.

The Upper Blepharoplasty can also be undertaken using the Laser beam instead of the scissors. This type of surgery has become very popular these days as there is less bleeding in this technique. However some surgeons think that the healing takes longer time in Laser blepharoplasty than the normal technique.

If the doctor and patient agree then there is another form of Upper Blepharoplasty called as "Deep Fixation" this is generally used for women. The Crease of the eyes are deepen so that the women get a stable platform to use cosmetics.

Upper Blepharoplasty has many advantages over the other techniques. One major advantage is that this is relatively safe and the results are much better than the other techniques. The care should be taken while undertaking this surgery, if it is carried in the presence of tired eyebrows then the eyebrow may further fall. However this is not the case if the surgery is carried with proper precautions.

After the surgery the surgeon may send you home after the 90 minutes of the surgery. You may take shower after 24 hours. There may be some swelling and the surgeon may prescribe you some medication for the same.
