Laser Blepharoplasty

Laser Blepharoplasty is the surgery in which Laser is used as the cutting tool. Opthalmologists have been using Laser as the cutting tool for around thirty years in the surgery related to retina. In recent times the scope of using laser in the surgery has increased. In blepharoplasty laser is used to cut and skin, tumor and fat etc.

The main advantage of the Laser blepharoplasty is that there is less amount of bleeding in this and hence there is comparatively less time consumed in surgery. Using laser the surgery of the more fine tissues can be done more efficiently. This is because the laser tool is comprised of three tools a cutting tool, a cautery, and a blunt dissection device

In laser blepharoplasty we do not need to use any clamp to stop the bleeding.

Neodymium was the first laser used in Laser blepharoplasty. The laser beam is passed through a coil made up of fiber. The probe at the end of the coil thus focuses the beam at the skin directly . The laser beam then cuts the skin. The beam also coagulate the blood vessels and as a result there is lesser bleeding. However some additional setup is required for Laser blepharoplasty. For example the surgeon needs to wear the goggles and thus the vision of the surgeon decreases. Moreover the cost of laser surgery is high as compared to the traditional surgery.

CO2 Laser blepharoplasty :- In this surgery the CO2 pulse is used to vaporized the fine wrinkles and skin imperfections. The laser beam used is very precise and accurate. This surgery is performed under the anesthesia. After the surgery minor swelling can be there and the surgeon may prescribe the medicine.

As such there is no conspicuous difference in the Laser blepharoplasty and the traditional ones. If a patient bleeds more then the laser blepharoplasty is better option for him, but in the first place he/she should not go for the surgery.

In terms of the results of the surgery, there is no significant advantage of the two. However in laser surgery the scars are more obvious but after 2-3 months both of them look almost same.

These days there has been a modification in the usage of the laser tool. Laser tool is now used as the resurfacing tool and is used to soften the wrinkles.

So if we consider the opinions of a number of surgeons then Laser surgery has no significant advantages over the non laser blepharoplasty. The thing that matters is the knowledge and the understanding of he surgeon.
